For 50 years, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certification has been the standard of excellence for financial planners. CFP® professionals have met extensive training and experience requirements, and commit to CFP Board's ethical standards that require them to put their clients' interests first. In order to become a CFP® professional, a candidate must successfully pass the CFP® exam which tests their ability to apply financial planning knowledge to real-life situations, In addition, each professional must have two years of financial planning-related experience, must commit to following a code of ethics and standards set and enforced by the Certified Planner Board of Standards, Inc (CFP Board) and must complete 30 hours of continuing education every two years to stay current in financial planning knowledge, including ethics.
